It was a close finish at Bangor with Ballycool hitting the front after the last and just being passed by a fast finishing Peter Bowen horse. Still, this was a good return to form for Paul and Margaret Winnell's ten year old who has been leading some of the schooling at Kilduff this week. He seems to like Bangor and we will likely return there for more chases for him.
There was more schooling…
More schooling this morning and a few horses starting back in work.
At Kilduff Scu rode Tap Night as a lead horse and we jumped some of the three and four year olds over the logs, tyres and hurdles: Following Scu were Emissaire, Blaydon, and Simone. Next it was the brush hurdles for those three and also Rivabodiva, Chasseur De Tetes, Momkinzain and Rossamilan. Finally, Rossamilan jumped…
The tempo is being increased as we get closer to autumn racing with more of the pre trainers in full training and working at a good pace up the gallops.
At Kilduff we schooled a couple this morning including the five year old Chasseur De Tetes who jumped really well over the hurdles and will likely go hurdling next rather than another bumper. We also jumped Rossamilan who was super, Rivabodiva…
We have had a super day with the Tay Valley Chasers Racing Club at South Kilduff.
Forty members joined us for prosecco and Edinburgh Rhubarb Gin or tea and coffee for the drivers, then a parade of a dozen horses including some special ones to follow this season. We then loaded everyone into the trailer and took them up to the schooling grounds to watch some jumping.
It was Will's…
Sky Khan ran a much better race at Worcester to be third. Having had a great season last year he has taken time to find his true form this time, and was not helped by a fall a few runs ago. However, having schooled over our brush hurdles the Worcester brush hurdles helped his jumping and he stayed on really well after the last to snatch third. He may be stepped up to three miles at Perth next time,…
While we take time to dismantle the marquees from the owners lunch, there is plenty of news to catch up on.
We had two new arrivals on Sunday night when Eric Gillie delivered the Tattersalls Sales Goldwell three year old of the Winnell's. He is to be named Izzy's Champion and will be broken in by Derek over the next few weeks.
We have also been sent the four year old mare by Presenting…
Poor Morning Time broke his hind leg when brought down at Hexham tonight. He was so unlucky and we are all devastated not just for him but for his owner Bill Forrester who adored his horse. Bill would come in often to see Morning and as he had owned him for seven years he was one of Bill's family.
We have had lots of good times with Morning including a chase and five hurdle wins, most recently…
We were blessed with great weather and a super turnout of wonderful owners at our annual lunch party this afternoon.
Our new yard sponsor Edinburgh Gin provided prosecco and rhubarb gin to start with and there was plenty more Edinburgh Gin and tonics afterwards. Heaven Scent from Milnathort had a hog roast and extras and over one hundred and fifty owners had plenty of time to socialise.…
Devito'sgoldengirl, pictured in the paddock, ran a most game race to be second over a trip short of her best. Having made the running she was tapped for toe rounding the home turn but stayed on strongly to be a good second to a high rated horse. While getting a mares allowance and a couple of penalties from the winner who is rated 125 she ran to form and will find life easier in handicaps next time.
The yard is flat out with horses in work, preparing a couple for racing and getting ready for our owners' lunch. I have posted some videos on our Facebook page from this morning at Kilduff, mostly cantering around the fields and a bit of schooling.
Photographed are the schooling horses; Devito'sgoldengirl leading Bab El Mandeb, Onahandshake, and Spoils Of War.
We have four going…
