Frosty But Better Than Some

A bit nippy on the yards this morning and ice accompanying sub-zero temperatures meant things took a bit longer than usual. The roads needed salt before we could walk on them and the tractors were busy harrowing the gallops to keep the surface from freezing. However, all the horses had a good workout and some time in the fields before they and were warm and back in their stables by lunchtime. It…

Fifths, Good Runs And Cameron And Chanceiton Save The Day

It is odd to be pleased with fifth places but we were very proud of Imjoeking's efforts in the Grand Sefton when jumping incredibly well and only just lacking to stay in the final furlong. He gets two and a half miles but the heavy ground and extra furlong were just too far for our warrior who had shown scope and confidence over the unique fences. He will be now aimed at the Topham Chase in April…

Pre Aintree And Wetherby

Scu and I were back on the yard this morning after a swift sleeper train from London and it was great to see the horses looking so well despite the chilly temperatures. At Kilduff the pre race horses had a zim up and down the gallops while those at Arlary had three canters.

Back in work after a quiet week to settle in is the three year old Milan out of Foundling Daughter who is a half sister…

Another Award

We had a doubleheader of awards ceremonies this evening, with one team heading to Glasgow and one to London.

Derek, Jaimie, Jamie, Lea, and Ciorstaidh were guests of Sunday Mail and Daily Record reporter Craig Swan in the Glasgow Hilton, at the Scottish Sports Awards where Arthur was nominated for and won the Editors Choice special award. There was plenty of cheering and once Derek got hold…

Gearing Up, Arrivals And Sales

We are gearing up to plenty of racing this weekend and next week and have been helped with mild weather and lots of opportunities to school and canter on the grass at the farm as well as working the horses on the woodchip gallops.

We have had a new arrival from Denmark with the ex French Bialco, pictured. Having won over fences in France for Simon Munir, the six year old was bought by our…

Awards And Nominations

It has been an outstanding year for the yard winning the Grand National and we have been very lucky and honoured to be nominated for, and to win some super awards.

Last week in London at the 'St Andrews Day at the Savoy' celebrations with London Scottish I was awarded the Great London Scot award for outstanding achievement, made all the more special as it was presented to me by the Two Golf…

Forest Des Aigles Wins Northern Lights Final Middle Distance Chase

Ray Anderson Green has wanted to support the Northern Lights Finals at Carlise and he was rewarded with his Forest des Aigles winning the middle distance final. Aimed at mid-tier horses the series offered excellent prize money for horses who had qualified by running in two qualifiers and being placed on at least one occasion. Forest is an improving type and having won both of his qualifiers we waited…

Ask The Tycoon Shows Promise And Pre Carlisle

Ask The Tycoon has a super attitude and although the trip was too short for him he hurdled brilliantly and tried to quicken in the home straight. His third placing was credit to his raw talent and he should be a good prospect for Mark and Susie Russell

Well Above Par did not travel as he can and was a bit careful at his fences. It could be that his fall at Ayr has knocked his confidence…

Pre Saturday Runners

Two runners at Newcastle and two at Bangor this Saturday.

We have always really liked Well Above Par and in time he should be one if our good long distance chasers, but at just five years old we are going to look after him with the future in mind. Thus he has been given time to get over his last run and we think that two and a half miles is far enough for him at the moment . He takes on…

Simone Oh So Close

It was a strong run from Simone in the mares novice hurdle where she traveled and jumped so much better on good ground than she did last time on soft. She was denied a win just at the line and will be better again over further.

Jump For Dough, fourth,  ran better than on his chase debut but the fences are still an effort for him at this stage and we may go back over hurdles next time. Hey…
