Ballyare Returns To The Track With A Second And American Tom For Free Lease

What a super run from Ballyare at Newcastle, our first runner since lockdown and a battling second place for the young sprinter. Having had a short break he has come back better than ever and he should have plenty more opportunities to lose his maiden tag in the next few weeks.

Our other runners ran to a standard, but while Gripper needs further, Engles Rock should be suited by shorter;…

We are delighted to be recognised as a Lycetts Team Champion Gold Award yard, an accolade to show that we have developed a high performance team with the highest standards of employee management. This is the first year that we have applied for the award and it is great to go in at the top level.

Our team has continued to prepare the horses for racing and this weekend we will have our first…

Looking Up

Things are looking up for the resumption of racing, both on the flat and over jumps. The flat looks set to start on 1st June, whilst jumps fixtures are being planned from the start of July. We will have a few flat runners ready to go in June, while our twenty or so first phase jumpers have completed their steady work and are heading to Arlary this week to start sprinting ready for July.

Lockdown Adaption

The past six weeks have been extraordinary as we adapt to life in lockdown.

While the majority of horses are relaxing in the fields the team has continued to improve the yard and gallops. Pictured are Emirat de Catana and Caboy delighted to hear that work is being done somewhere.

The woodchip at Kilduff and Arlary has been refurbished as has the deep sand gallop in preparation for…

Paul McIvor Statistical Review Of 2019/20 Season

When the 2019/20 British Jumps season was brought to a premature halt after the conclusion of racing at Taunton and Wetherby on Tuesday 17th March, Lucinda Russell Racing was sitting in a respectable 30th place in the trainer’s table with 32 winners from 332 starters and total prize money of £343,886, thus ensuring the yard was the leading Scottish stable for the eleventh season…

End Of Season Start Of The Next.. Some Time..

The 2019/20 season is over, ending unexpectedly, but giving us every reason to be proud and excited for the future.

With 32 winners and £342,000 in prizemoney we were in 30th position in the GB jumps trainers table we have continued to hold our own despite not having a crack at the end of season valuable races. The improving three mile hurdler, Mighty Thunder was our leading prizemoney…

Locked Down

The Coronavirus crisis has escalated rapidly in the past week and we are now in lockdown as the country tries desperately to slow the spread and diminish a peak of cases. It is a most serious issue and one that makes training and racing horses of very small relevance.

Of course, we must continue to look after our horses and we are doing so within the social distancing regulations and with…

Fantastic Team Helps Through Difficult Times

These are difficult times for all as the threat of Coronavirus heightens and social distancing becomes the order for the future.

British horse racing has been banned despite our efforts to continue behind closed doors, while the Irish are able to keep racing, albeit that the situation may change at any moment. Of course, we are hugely disappointed to not be able to race on; our horses are…

Cheltenham Corona and Catching Up

The Cheltenham Festival was magnificent with high class racing and an incredible time in our Edinburgh Gin hospitality box. We are delighted to offer this facility to all of our owners and Edinburgh Gin is extremely generous in providing it.

Big River made the first day a cause for celebration; he jumped with fluency and stayed on up the hill to be beaten just three lengths into a close…

Pre Cheltenham

The lorry left for Cheltenham this morning driven by Jaimie with Hannah beside her. Both Big River and Mighty Thunder had a canter before they went and a ten minute session on the water treadmill.

Big River runs in the Ultima tomorrow, a race he was fourth in last year. His preparation then had been interrupted and this year we have been much happier with him. He also arrives on the back…
