Well Above is a winning and placed chaser, rated 117 who has plenty of scope to progress further. He won easily at Hexham last December gaining an RPR of 127 then was second a week later running to the same level despite a welterweight. He is best on soft and heavy ground; conditions that were rare last winter, and he has returned from his summer break looking fabulous.
It was a day of diminishing margins at Bangor today; Chanceiton running one of his best hurdle races to be second by a head, and Royal Reserve returning to form, thundering down the run in to be third by half a length.
Chanceiton had gone up in the ratings over hurdles after his chase runs and I had argued that it was too much only to have him dropped a pound. How I wish I had managed to…
Just one runner at Perth tomorrow with Gripper looking to make amends for a below par run last time. He has had a great few weeks since that run showing some improved pieces of work, and while this is a novice hurdle rather than a handicap, he should run a better race.
Our form man Paul McIvor was here last week and we have been discussing more ways to increase owner communication. As well…
The pre-training continues and the majority of the winter horses have completed four weeks of trotting and steady cantering. The next month sees the mileage cut down and the speed increased as we head towards races in September.
We have a couple who are further forward including the ex-French Signifiant who will run for a new group of owners a couple of whom, Kat, John and George, were…
No racing this week but some good progress with the horses' fitness levels as most have completed three weeks pre training and are ready for more stamina work and cantering.
We continue to add to our facilities and this week we had a vibrating floor installed at Arlary. An aid to boost circulation, and used in recovery and to boost well being the vibrations are cyclical, horizontal and vertical.…
Boys On Tour loves Perth and this season has consistently posted improving runs round there. This afternoon, given a confident ride by Stephen he powered away two from home to win for the third time. When in good form he can be relied upon to run to his best and if he is fresh after this win he may look at another similar contest in a couple of weeks.
Bialco tried hard to take on the eventual…
A busy week with horses working hard on their pretraining, covering the miles in both trot and steady canter; each horse has its own pre raining program with a mix of the different surfaces that they will train on, and a tailored program on the water treadmill depending on which muscles they need to build.
On Tuesday Scu and I had a brief trip to France, and although we did not buy the horse…
The summer pre training is well underway with eighty percent of the horses back in work, some already on week six of our twelve week regime. Others have just started and today we had eight three and four year olds starting off along with the usual fresh bucks and spins. Included in this batch are three that we bought at Arqana last year and who have all had a full year pre training so they should…
We two seconds at Perth with both Boys On Tour and Chanceiton filling the runner up spot.
Boys On Tour, pictured, had run below form last time at Market Rasen, but returned to his favourite track of Perth he rallied to run one of his best races. He has been a fabulous horse for his owners Foresight Racing, and with luck should continue to be competitive this summer at Perth.
The second day of the summer sale was for form horses who had run on the flat or over obstacles. We were looking specifically for an ex flat horse to go juvenile hurdling, were delighted to acquire two and also could not resist buying an older chaser to have fun with in staying chases and cross country races.
There was a wide variety of horses on offer, and again Paul had made a comprehensive…
