We had two seconds at Hexham, from two very different styles of running.
Saint Freule is a very decent type but he needs to settle and having wound himself up at the start he shot off down the Hexham hill. He only settled passing the winning post first time around, after which his hurdling got better. However, he paid for his early enthusiasm in the closing stages, vainly trying to rally when passed. He has a good engine and will be better when relaxed in his races.
Haul Us In, pictured with Blair when schooling, was balked at the start and took a long time to warm to her racing. Her jumping on debut improved and she has plenty of scope. Despite being at the back for most of the trip she kept in touch and rallied well up the final hill. I would not have liked to have laid her in running! Her second place can be built on and we will likely step her up in trip next time.
Island Heights was returning from ten months off and ran a solid race to be fourth. He will improve on this run. Rossamilan ran an odd race being handy then dropping back and we have some work to do to get him right. Green Flag was running well until tiring and will come on a bundle for this run.
