Pre Kelso

We set off to Kelso tomorrow with five runners, all over hurdles and including some promising novices.

Superior Command is a good two mile hurdler on his day, and he seems to be in great form at home. He is trimmer than this time last season and while he can jump right, he has won round Kelso in the past. A solid run to set him up for the season would be great, especially as he will have a good support from his owners, The British Racing Club.

Two dozen members of The British Racing Club were here this morning on a stable visit. They watched the horses on the gallops, including Superior Command and some of the new novice horses for this season. It is great to see the club doing so well: they have nine horses in training across the country, including some who have been running on the flat this summer; they seem to have runners most weeks. Kelpies Myth then starts his hurdling career over two miles. He won a juvenile bumper at Musselburgh last spring and is a good looking youngster. He will improve for tomorrow's experience and should be a nice type for the yard, and his new syndicate, Bolton McGladery and Duncan-Black.

Boys On Tour is also a hurdling debutante but he has point to point experience which has been evident in his schooling this week. He starts over two and a half miles and we will see how he is suited to this trip.

We then run two mares in each of the two handicap hurdle divisions. Catchthemoonlight is back after a break and has been her usual exuberant self at home. The extended two and a half mile trip is maybe at her stamina limit, but she is game and often runs well fresh. Blair rides both Catch and Topham Bay at home each day and was glad when the race split into two divisions so that he could ride both tomorrow. Topham has been gently improving and we try a tongue strap. She stayed on strongly last time over two miles and there is every chance that she will run a big race tomorrow.
